The Winery Barn and Cottages.
In January 2010 we were asked to quote on an unusual and interesting project, the client had planted a vineyard with a view to starting wine production, the wine his grapes had produced was so good that he decided to take the next step and build his own winery and make his wine on site.
The project comprised of two cottages and a large barn style building to be used as the winery. All to be constructed out of Oak.
The client visited Norton timbers framing yard to discuss the project with Mr Norton, We tendered and won the contract to supply all the frames required for the project, we set about building the two cottages first, while the foundations for the barn frame were being completed. The frame underwent some changes from the original specification, which working with the architect and engineer we were able to accommodate with out to much delay.
The frames are now complete and look fantastic, the main winery frame is a vast open space measuring eight and a half meters wide and eighteen meters long with two side rooms to be used as testing labs. The cottages have come out very nicely, the main alteration to these frames was the lowering of one of the cottages creating a step in the roof line, doing this has proven to be a good call by the client, as it gives the building more character when viewed from the outside plus we were able to incorporate large curved rack braces internally which gives a rely nice feel to the inside of the cottages.
